Fans Moved as GFL Confirms Tony Ferguson vs. Dillon Danis in ‘Epic Lightweight Showdown’
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

The Global Fight League (GFL) is on a mission to schedule the fights fans are eager to see—or at least, the ones they believe fans are clamoring for. This past Friday, they unveiled an intriguing lineup: former UFC standout Tony Ferguson taking on the contentious ex-Bellator fighter and Logan Paul’s former opponent, Dillon Danis. Despite Danis boasting a mere 2-0 professional record, the GFL seems convinced this matchup will draw a crowd, going so far as to label it a “highly demanded” duel.

Yet the buzz online tells a different story. Not everyone is thrilled with this pairing. Among the voices, UFC Lightweight Terrance McKinney wasted no time in stating, “Nobody asked for this.”

Let’s dive into a few more social media reactions:

– “This one hurts”
– “Quite possibly the worst poster I’ve ever seen”
– “Dillon’s going to make 165? He’s fighting at 185 on March 29.”
– “Dillon Danis is a country mile away from anything legendary.”
– “Wait, Tony can actually win this.”
– “I’ll believe it when I see Danis in the cage. This dude’s flakier than a whole box of corn flakes.”
– “Bumfights are making a comeback?”

For those who may have forgotten, Tony Ferguson was once a towering figure in the Lightweight division, known for his fierce rivalry with Khabib Nurmagomedov and one of the most impressive 155-pound winning streaks in UFC history. Unfortunately, following a grueling five-round loss to Justin Gaethje, Ferguson’s fortunes changed, ushering in the longest losing streak in UFC annals.

Could the GFL be the stage for Tony’s comeback? While there isn’t an official debut date for this controversial “legends” promotion yet, it’s expected to take place sometime in Q2 2025.

Insomnia

Isn’t it time Montel Jackson got a fight with some serious spotlight? With five convincing wins in a row, he’s more than earned it.

Yuki Yoza’s punch-and-kick combos in tight quarters are among the coolest I’ve witnessed.

I must admit, seeing my friends in their early-to-mid 20s thrive by joining the UFC through the Contender Series only to face a short-lived career can be quite disheartening. An industry that’s always been cutthroat seems to have gotten even tougher…

Since 2017, a total of 268 athletes have joined the UFC via DWCS, yet 95 of them have already been cut. Of those, around 65% never made it past four matches. Here’s a deeper breakdown:

It’s surprisingly easy to overlook fighters who don’t make the cut, but Ilia Topuria was willing to risk it all!

The UFC continues its rigorous roster trimming…

Roosevelt Roberts is the latest fighter to be removed from the roster.

Remember back in 2013 when Vitor Belfort, despite his age, was arguably the most intimidating fighter alive? To those who witnessed his reign, he remains synonymous with TRT.

Slips, Rips, and KO Clips

Karate Combat, combined with spinning backfists, creates quite the spectacle.

Former UFC Welterweight Dwight Grant fell prey to a crafty parry across the body-left hook counter.

Fatigued and backed against the wall is never a good spot—especially when a standing hammerfist comes into play!

Random Land

It’s biblical.
