I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, but Lando Norris’ race in Montreal was kind of like watching a really promising movie that flops at the box office. There he was, zipping around the track like a breeze in the Canadian Grand Prix. McLaren, the team you’d think would be top of the heap, seemed a little out of sorts. Like, Norris had a great final practice, but then? Not so much.
You had Oscar Piastri snagging P3 in qualifying, which sounds good, right? But then Norris? Ended up P7 because, oh man, he messed up his laps. It’s like heading to the store and forgetting your wallet. Annoying and kind of embarrassing.
And the race start? Just… meh. Norris got a so-so start and then – boom – lost a spot to this Mercedes rookie, Andrea Kimi Antonelli. What was going on? Couldn’t tell you.
Then there’s this thing they did with the hard tyres. Norris was on this wild strategy, running long like he had a secret plan. Spoiler alert: it didn’t work out. A one-stop strategy that fizzled faster than you could say “rubber.” Two stops and bam he’s back in P5.
Fast forward to six laps from the end and things get… dicey. Norris is on Piastri’s tail, Piastri’s chasing Antonelli. It’s a whole situation. In the hairpin, Norris gets ahead – but wait! Piastri’s having none of it. The guy’s got chutzpah, I’ll give him that.
Then chaos. Norris, all fired up, decides he’s going for it – a bit too hungry maybe? Sees a gap like seeing the last cookie on a plate. Misjudges the whole thing and bam – they touch. Norris spins into the wall, out of the race, just like that. Piastri keeps rolling, finishes fourth. Life’s… not fair sometimes.
Norris later, sounding all regretful and apologetic. “My bad,” he basically said. “Our number one rule is don’t flirt with disaster – especially not with your team-mate. Sorry ’bout that, Oscar.”
He beats himself up about it. Goes on about how he shouldn’t have made the move. But hey, at least he’s aware, right? Said he’s gonna learn from it, come back like Rocky Balboa or something in Austria.
F1, it’s a wild ride, you know? Always something to keep you at the edge of your seat, even when things don’t exactly go to plan.
