Man, so, FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem, right? He just dropped this statement, like, after Yuki Tsunoda got hammered with some really nasty stuff on social media last Friday. Crazy world.
So, Tsunoda, who’s this Red Bull driver, basically shouted out to F1, “Hey, do something!” because some folks rooting for Franco Colapinto — yeah, I know — went wild in Spanish at Tsunoda. Apparently, there was this little spat during practice at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, where Tsunoda got blocked. He was like, “What the heck?” And honestly, who wouldn’t be ticked off?
Colapinto, though, when he saw all this blowing up, was the chill guy and asked his fans to keep it civilized. I mean, good on him for trying to calm the storm.
Anyway, Ben Sulayem – the FIA big guy – he’s on Instagram, right? And he’s saying, no way should any driver face what Tsunoda did. But, he also gave a shout-out to both drivers for speaking up. “Motorsport’s supposed to be about competition, passion, you know, all the good stuff,” he says. And, honestly, I kinda get it. It’s supposed to bring us together, but somehow it spirals into all this toxicity.
He’s like, “I totally back Tsunoda and Colapinto. Thanks to them for tackling this online nastiness head-on.” It’s true, no one deserves threats or hate, especially in something that’s meant to be fun and exciting. They’re even launching this campaign against online abuse, pushing for awareness, support, and, hopefully, some positive change.
In a nutshell, Ben’s all about protecting everyone involved in the sport, aiming for a space that’s safe and full of respect. Lofty goals, but hey, one step at a time, right?
