Oh man, where do I even start with Cooper Flagg getting picked by the Mavericks? First of all — and I swear this jumped out at me from nowhere — he’s a 6-9 powerhouse from Duke. Must be something in the water over there, I guess. Anyway, the dude put up some wild numbers: 19.2 points per game, shooting almost like .481 from the field. Not bad, eh? And those three-pointers? .385 isn’t too shabby either.
But you know what really got me? It wasn’t just his scoring. Somehow — and I can’t wrap my head around this — he managed to lead his team in rebounds and assists too. Oh, and steals and blocks. Like, how does a freshman just come in and dominate all five categories?! Only Ben Simmons kinda pulled that off before. Crazy, right?
And the honors! Let me tell you, they basically threw every possible award at Flagg. He was the man at Duke, picking up National College Player of the Year like it was no big deal. First-Team All-American? Check. ACC Player of the Year? Of course. It’s like they ran out of awards to give this guy.
I should say this Maine kid has a knack for breaking records too. Out of nowhere, he drops 42 points on Notre Dame! Pretty sure their heads were spinning. And he’s already wearing that Team USA jersey from the Under-17 World Cup in 2022 with stats that left me speechless. Well, not quite speechless — but you get what I mean.
And he’s not just a number guy. Off to the Olympics in 2024, it seems. Like, what were the rest of us doing at 18?
Flagg’s rocking the No. 32 for the Mavericks now. I guess we’ll see a lot more of this guy, and who knows how he’s gonna shake things up in the NBA!
