Liverpool fans can breathe a sigh of relief as their star goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, makes his way back to Merseyside after sustaining a suspected concussion during Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Colombia.
The incident occurred when Alisson clashed mid-air with Colombian defender Davinson Sanchez, forcing both players to leave the field. While there was initial concern, Brazil’s team doctor, Rodrigo Lasmar, reassured that although Alisson showed some minor symptoms, he was conscious and responsive the entire time.
Lasmar elaborated that despite Alisson seeming fine after the incident, adhering to the concussion protocols was essential, and it’s why he had to be substituted. In line with these protocols, medical evaluations, including a CT scan and cognitive assessments, are in place to ensure the goalkeeper’s health isn’t compromised in the long term.
Liverpool gave an update on Friday, confirming Alisson’s withdrawal from Brazil’s squad and his imminent return to English soil. In their statement, the club expressed that once back in Liverpool, Alisson will undergo further examinations by the team’s medical experts.
For now, Alisson will be closely monitored in the following days, with hopes high that he’ll be fit for Liverpool’s upcoming matches.
