Recruiting Buzz: Spring Visits Begin to Take Shape
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Lately, the recruitment landscape is sharpening its focus, with top teams increasingly spotlighting some of the nation’s standout high school athletes. I’m Adam Gorney, your guide through the Recruiting Rumor Mill, offering insights into the latest buzz surrounding these young talents.

In the recruiting world, a few names are bubbling to the top. One player drawing major attention is a four-star receiver from Houston County in Warner Robins, Georgia. His recruitment has gained significant momentum recently, with heavyweights like Georgia, Georgia Tech, Colorado, Florida State, Auburn, Duke, and Vanderbilt circling, eager to win him over.

Looking ahead, he has some crucial official visits stacked up for late May and June. Scheduled stops include Colorado, Georgia Tech, and Florida State, before wrapping up with Georgia. There’s a strong possibility he might stay local.

On the running back scene, a headline-maker in the class of 2026 canceled an anticipated visit to Texas following his position coach’s departure to the Detroit Lions. However, plans changed after he spoke with Texas’ new running backs coach, Chad Scott. Scott’s admiration for his game might just convince him to keep Austin on his list. Currently, though, Alabama seems to be leading the charge, as evidenced by his choice of gear during The Sevens tournament in Atlanta.

For quarterback recruit Fahey, the top contenders have slimmed down to Cal and Ole Miss. There’s a strong SEC allure with Lane Kiffin’s program, yet the proximity and fit at Cal remain compelling. But don’t count out recent entrant Stanford, which has disrupted this balance with a well-timed offer.

Defensive prospect Gordon, who had previously considered Alabama and UCF, is setting his sights on making visits to North Carolina, Ole Miss, and Oklahoma State. Auburn, Florida, and Florida State are also potential stops on his itinerary, although Ole Miss and Florida are currently capturings his attention.

In other recruitment developments, Jones, a four-star running back, has Ole Miss at the top of his list for now. His ties to the school are deep, sharing an alma mater with Quinshon Judkins, another star from Oxford. Yet, visits to Auburn, Alabama, and South Carolina might shake things up.

For prolific edge rusher Kreul from IMG Academy in Florida, a multitude of programs, including Ohio State, Florida, and Penn State, are seeking his commitment. However, Oklahoma, strengthened by Kreul’s rapport with coach Miguel Chavis, seems to hold a strategic advantage.

Meanwhile, Osborne, another Texas running back hopeful, seems to have shifted away from the Longhorns after coaching changes. This seems to work in Michigan’s favor, which has made significant strides to secure his interest.

Quarterback recruit O’Neal has been pledged to Oklahoma, but with the Sooners eyeing another quarterback, things could take an intriguing turn. If Oklahoma alters its plans, schools such as Georgia, Mississippi State, and Auburn could enter the fray.

Prothro, a skilled tight end, is weighing his options with key programs like Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. He has expressed keen interest in Auburn, especially under Hugh Freeze’s leadership, even though Georgia has been a long-time favorite.

Riley, an offensive lineman from Ohio, is down to Clemson and Ohio State. Despite a strong Clemson connection, the allure of Ohio State’s proximity and recent success is making this decision particularly challenging.

Rivers, a high-caliber defensive end, is finding it hard to resist Georgia’s appeal after receiving their offer. Yet now, Miami and Texas have stepped up with their own interest, hinting at a fiercely contested recruitment.

Spafford, a highly-touted receiver, continues to affirm his commitment to Georgia, but is keeping his options open for upcoming visits to UCLA, Missouri, Ole Miss, and USC. The Trojans are nudging for a reconsideration, giving him something to ponder over this recruiting season.

Similarly, Streets, an emerging edge from the class of 2027, has been fascinated by visits to Florida State and NC State. With more visits planned for schools like North Carolina and Notre Dame, his recruitment journey is just heating up.

Topping things off are opportunities for Patterson and Young. Patterson’s recent positive visit to Penn State’s junior day places them high on his list, although Georgia, Alabama, and other top programs have been reaching out. Meanwhile, Young remains committed to Clemson, but interest from Oregon, Michigan, and SMU indicates his recruitment is far from settled.

These shifting dynamics showcase just how fluid the recruiting process can be. It’s an exhilarating ride for these young athletes as they navigate pivotal moments that will shape their futures. Share your thoughts with fellow fans at OUInsider, UGASports, and TigerIllustrated, and let’s see how these stories unfold.
