Weiss High School grabbed Malcom Hill as their new head football coach, straight from Prosper’s offense crew. If you’re not caught up, he’s from Dallas-Fort Worth originally and played cornerback for four years at Rice University. Surprised? Maybe not.
Hill steps into the shoes of Vernon Hughes, who took off to Mesquite Horn. Hughes did alright, going 17-5 in two seasons with Weiss. Yeah, no playoff wins, but the 2024-25 season had an 8-3 record even though Angleton knocked them out in the first round. No fairytales here, right?
Let’s chat about Weiss’s lineup. They’ve got some pretty impressive players. Just to name drop: there’s Jerald “JJ” Mays, an offensive lineman with three stars to his name. Tre Moore, a wide receiver gleaming with four stars, and then there’s quarterback Jaxon Schad (reminds me of, I don’t know, a young Gunslinger? Maybe?). Defensive side — it’s all about linebacker Michael Dent III and defensive back Jorian Guinn Jr. Both snagged Division I offers. Not too shabby.
Hill’s been holding down the fort at Prosper, top two in their district in his three-year stint as offensive coordinator. Also juggling recruiting. Prosper wrapped the 2024-25 with an 8-3 scorecard before Coppell shut them down 35-27 in the playoffs. A nail-biter? Who am I kidding, felt more like a slow burn.
