Okay, so here’s the thing about Friday’s round at the PGA Championship. First off, why do they call it a “round”? It’s not like the course is circular. Anyway, you’ve got a whole bunch of folks swinging sticks and chasing a tiny ball from morning until night. Early birds get to see Thomas, Johnson, and Morikawa give it a go at 7:45 AM, which sounds painfully early. Seriously, do golfers even sleep?
And then, poof, at 7:55 AM you have Reed, Spieth, and Åberg. Those names always sound like they could be law firms or something. What was I saying? Oh, right — the afternoon shenanigans start around 1:10 PM with Mickelson, who’s…? Still at it? Fleetwood and Day are with him too. Not sure who to root for, but hey, it’s on ESPN+, whatever that means these days.
Zooming into more chaos — 1:20 PM has Rahm, Cantlay, and Fitzpatrick. By now, the lunch sandwich has probably settled. A bit later, make a note — or don’t, I can’t tell you what to do — McIlroy, Schauffele, and Scheffler tee off at 1:45 PM. It’ll drag on till almost dinnertime.
About that broadcast — ESPN starts showing stuff at 7:00 AM. Yes, that early! But, you know, featured holes begin around 7:45 AM until 8:00 PM. Holes 16, 17, 18, if you’re a number person.
Then, for some reason, the main event on ESPN gets underway only at noon — feels like they’re missing the early worms. ESPN2 jumps in with a betting angle from 12:00 PM till 3:00 PM — because why not make golf more intense, right?
There’s also SiriusXM because some folks prefer listening to the game, from 10:00 AM starting out with their pregame, rolling till 8:00 PM. They make golf sound like play-by-play for a close football match.
How could I forget the CBS Sports Network? They cap things off with a 9 PM Clubhouse Report. A report about what? No clue. But it’s a thing.
That’s your Friday if you’re mysteriously tied to hoops and fairways. Everything I mentioned is Eastern Time, for what it’s worth. Heaven help the golfers if they miss the start time.
