So here’s the deal with Roland-Garros cash news—prize money, yadda yadda, is on the upswing. But, like, are players even gonna chill with these numbers? Something tells me, probably not. Upping by 5.21% since last year, which sounds like a hefty €56,352,000 in total. But is it cool enough to keep players quiet? Doubtful.
Players, being the totally un-shy creatures they are, have whipped out the ol’ pen and paper (or iPad, whatevs) and sent a letter, listing all their gripes to the four Grand Slams. Can you imagine the coffee-fueled, late-night drafting sessions that one took? Officials are like, “Hey, we’re open to chat, any day, any time”—at least that’s what Gilles Moretton, French Tennis Fed honcho said to London Times. Call me cynical, but are any meetings actually on the calendar? Hmm, who knows. Meanwhile, mark May 25 on your tennis calendar because that’s when things get swinging at Roland-Garros.
Oh, and to sprinkle in some electrifying numbers (in case your smoothie was missing some math):
– Champion pockets: €2,550,000 vs the €2,400,000 last year. Nifty!
– Runner-up gets: €1,275,000 against €1,200,000. Almost pays for all the tears, right?
– High-five to the Semi-finalists with: €690,000 over €650,000.
– Quarter-final kindness of: €440,000 vs €415,000 previously.
– A humble round four haul: €265,000 vs €250,000.
– Third round? €168,000 compared to €158,000.
And, if you care about those fighting tooth and nail in qualifying matches, here’s what they’re looking at:
– Round three qualifying loss: €43,000 vs €41,000.
– Round two says goodbye with €29,500 over €28,000.
– Round one dismissals snag €21,000 over €20,000.
It’s kind of like your favorite snack brand upping the price of chips, but without adding extra chips. Make of it what you will. Would love to see what the players spin out of these figures, though. Keep those popcorn stocks on alert!
