Andy Murray has been a key figure in helping Novak Djokovic unlock his potential, and it looks like the duo’s collaboration is set to continue as Djokovic eyes more historic victories.

During a media session at Indian Wells, Djokovic expressed that his performance at the Australian Open was some of his best since he clinched the Olympic gold medal for Serbia in Paris last year.

Despite having to withdraw from the Australian Open semifinals due to a leg injury, Djokovic is optimistic about the partnership’s future. He confirmed that he and Murray would extend their teamwork through Roland Garros and, hopefully, Wimbledon.

“I felt we had a fantastic run in Australia,” Djokovic said. “I was really happy with how I played. It’s just unfortunate that it ended the way it did because of the injury.”

Reflecting on their collaboration, Djokovic added, “I think I played the best tennis I’ve played in a while, since the Olympics, and I have Andy to thank for that.”

After Melbourne, Murray needed some time to consider their partnership’s future. He consulted with his family about balancing tour commitments. Ultimately, both he and Djokovic decided to continue working together for the Sunshine Double events at Indian Wells and Miami.

“I was really pleased when he chose to keep going with the partnership,” Djokovic shared. “We’re planning to work through most of the clay court season, and we’ll discuss extending it further after Miami.”

Djokovic is aiming for his 100th career title at the Sunshine Double and hopes to capture his 25th Grand Slam crown at Roland Garros.

In a chat with Sporting Misadventures with Chris Hoy, Murray explained why he embraced the chance to coach Djokovic, his former rival.

“I consider Novak one of the greatest athletes ever. This opportunity to coach him felt like something I had to grab because it might not come again,” Murray explained. “Who knows how long he’ll continue playing?”

As they work together, both Djokovic and Murray find themselves navigating new roles, enhancing their relationship both on and off the court. Their connection, a blend of old friendship and fresh challenges, promises to be an exciting journey as they aim for Grand Slam glory.
