Throughout the offseason, one of the most talked-about topics was the uncertain future of the Bengals’ star wide receiver duo, Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Many in the NFL circles wondered whether Cincinnati could manage to lock both players into long-term commitments.
After lengthy negotiations spanning several years for both Chase and Higgins, the Bengals have successfully signed both players to extended contracts. It was crucial for the team to secure these key players to complement their star quarterback, Joe Burrow, as all three are poised to enter the prime of their careers with Cincinnati.
Heading into the new season, the Bengals made headlines by re-signing Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
The road to securing these deals was far from straightforward. Each player’s situation presented unique challenges. During the 2024 preseason training camp, Ja’Marr Chase was physically present but withheld from participating in drills, signaling his desire for a new contract before the season kick-off. Despite the standoff, a deal wasn’t reached, yet Chase went on to play all 17 games in the season.
Chase’s performance was nothing short of spectacular. He set new personal bests with 127 receptions, 1,708 yards, and 17 touchdowns, achieving the coveted triple-crown among wide receivers by leading the league in these stats. Faced with such an exceptional season, the Bengals had no option but to reward Chase with a handsome four-year, $161 million deal. With an annual average of $40.25 million, he now stands as the highest-paid non-quarterback in the league.
As for his counterpart, Tee Higgins, he secured a lucrative four-year, $122 million contract this offseason as well. Initially tagged with the franchise designation, the Bengals were able to finalize a long-term agreement with Higgins. Despite battling injuries in 2024, Higgins proved his worth and ensured his future with the team. With Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins now signed to lengthy contracts, the burning question remains: can this roster push through to another Super Bowl appearance?
