Okay, so here’s what’s floating around the Jets camp. Apparently, this dude named Darren Mougey, the big cheese when it comes to managing general Jet affairs or whatever, was babbling on Monday about picking up fifth-year options on three of their 2022 draft picks. We’re talking about Sauce Gardner, Garrett Wilson, and Jermaine Johnson here — just in case you were wondering, because I sure was.
Now, these were all first-round picks, which means, if I’m tracking right, they gotta decide whether to keep them through 2026. The whole deadline thing is May 1st, so, you know, clocks ticking and all that jazz.
Mougey’s all like, “Yeah, probably gonna do that,” but nothing’s carved in stone yet. Like, Sauce could pocket a sweet $20.1 million just for sticking around in 2026. I mean, imagine casually making that much dough — unreal. Anyway, Garrett isn’t doing too shabby either, with a $16.8 million guarantee, and then there’s Jermaine with $13.4 million. Not peanuts, folks.
There’s chatter about them hashing out long-term deals with Gardner and Wilson. Makes sense, I guess? Like those two seem to be working out okay for the team. Johnson, on the other hand, has to, you know, make a bit of a bigger splash this season. Dude had that Achilles thing last year, so now he’s gotta prove he isn’t just collecting paychecks for spectating.
Mougey dropped another nugget about handling extension talks post-draft. He’s surprisingly secretive for a guy whose job seems to involve a lot of talking. “In-house,” he kept saying. Which is funny if you’ve ever worked anywhere, and you’re like, just tell me what’s happening so I can pretend to understand football for once.
Anyway, that’s the scoop. Or, at least, the messy, incoherent version of it. Cheers!
