I was thinking about Christian McCaffrey the other day—why? Maybe because the 49ers really need him to be, like, the superhero of their offense like he was two years ago. And yeah, healthy Christian is like, top-tier NFL dynamo, no question. But, um, he’s not always in mint condition. Like, ever notice how often he’s sidelined? Exactly.
Brian Baldinger, this former O-lineman who knows his stuff, is basically sounding the alarm bells about McCaffrey’s future. You know, like, picture McCaffrey’s body as this worn-down engine—lots of inflation happening there, right? And the hits, man, he’s taken a ton. So Baldinger’s practically seeing this huge drop-off coming. Or maybe he’s just being a pessimist? Hard to say.

Back to the Niners—they totally knew the gamble they were taking when they snagged McCaffrey in 2022. I mean, dude was shredding defenses with the Panthers, but his injury history was like, flashing in neon. Still, the next year McCaffrey snagged Offensive Player of the Year. Like, he was everywhere—running, catching, scoring. And Shanahan’s offense? It makes most backs look good, but McCaffrey, he’s like on another level.
So, last season was a bit of a mess for him—those leg injuries weren’t helping. Some folks are seriously worried he might not bounce back to his epic form. If that happens, yikes, might be a rough season for the Niners. Especially with Brock Purdy at QB—he’s kinda hit-or-miss without McCaffrey.
