Adam Schefter has quite frankly lost his patience. The well-known ESPN insider recently expressed his exasperation with the ongoing saga surrounding Aaron Rodgers’ free agency, which has now extended into its fourth day.
“You’d think it wouldn’t be this complicated, right?” Schefter remarked during the “Jen, Gabe and Chewy” podcast. “The Steelers want you. The Giants want you. Players all over the league are already making moves.”
These comments were made as Rodgers, who the Jets officially released on Wednesday, remains the pivotal player in the free agency landscape. Despite the new league year kicking off Wednesday, negotiations and deals have been in motion since Monday.
The ripple effects of Rodgers’ decision are substantial, particularly for the Giants and Steelers, both of which reportedly have the 41-year-old quarterback at the top of their wish list. Meanwhile, Russell Wilson seems to be the contingency plan for these teams and might be feeling the pressure as well. Wilson, having started 11 games for the Steelers last year, has arranged visits with both the Browns and the Giants, slated towards the week’s end.
As frustration mounts, Schefter’s frustration is palpable. He observed, “It shouldn’t be this tough. Either you want to play or not. You want Pittsburgh, or you want New York, or you don’t. It’s like deciding what to have for lunch—are you going to decide, or just draw it out indefinitely? Make a decision and stick with it.”
Rodgers’ impending decision holds significant weight for the Giants and Steelers, as both teams are seemingly eager to have him at the helm.
In a related note, Cleveland isn’t on Rodgers’ radar as a potential destination, even though they are a part of the quarterback shuffle in the AFC North. Back in 2023, Rodgers faced a choice between retiring or being traded from the Packers, during which he grew frustrated with Schefter’s coverage of the situation. The MVP reportedly instructed Schefter to “lose my number” after the journalist reached out directly, aiming for accurate reporting.
Now, Schefter is anxious to finally announce Rodgers’ landing spot after a rather lackluster couple of years with the Jets.
