So, Venus Williams, right? She’s 45 and could totally be living her best life away from the court, you know? Like, doing all those fun creative things she’s probably been dreaming about. But nope, she’s diving back into the tennis chaos at the Mubadala Citi Open in DC. Why? Well, her words: “Why not?” Honestly, can’t argue with that logic.
And there she was, holding court (pun totally intended) at a pre-tournament chat with the media. I swear, she was dropping wisdom like it was going out of style. Her vibe? Pure happiness. Someone asked her about inspiring the young guns, and she’s all like, “Wow, never saw this coming as a kid!” She just wanted to be the best, and there she is, seeing others rise up because of her. I mean, can you imagine?
She nailed it with, “It’s like icing on the cake, cherries on top, with the nuts and all the fixings. You know, it’s beautiful.” Classic Venus, right? And missing tennis? Hmm… not really, she says. Busy life keeps her from longing for anything, but oh man, Wimbledon this year? That’s when the spark hit. The adrenaline, the memories—it’s all about the challenge for her. I kinda felt that too.
Venus hinted she might shoot for a wild card at the US Open, but she’s pretty mum about future plans. Keeping those cards close to her chest, she says. She’s just here for now, and honestly, who knows what’s next? She hasn’t played in a year, but confident as ever, she’s like, “No doubt I can still play tennis.” Love that attitude.
But hey, can she still hang with the best? The wins haven’t been plentiful lately—like, just six out of 26 since 2021. Yet, her fans? They just want to experience the Venus magic again, win or lose. She’s not worried, though. Says she’s all about hitting big, putting that ball where it needs to go. That’s the mission.
And let’s remember, she’s done heaps for women’s tennis—like that equal prize money thing at Wimbledon! She’s just not ready to hang it up. Loves the game too much. Feels it’s kind of a duty to keep pushing for women in sports. Keeps it real, doesn’t she?
So anyway, round one’s Venus versus Peyton Stearns. Game on!
