NFL Draft Day 3 Hidden Gems: Late-Round College Stars with Big Potential
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Alright, here’s my take. Imagine you’re reading this over coffee, and I’m sitting across the table rambling a bit—but hey, that’s just how conversations go, right?

—

So, the NFL Draft—man, it’s like this giant, three-day extravaganza where college dreams try to morph into NFL realities. Kind of like a high-stakes talent show, but without Simon Cowell. Fans from both worlds dive in; NFL devotees get their new stars, while college fans hope their heroes get the applause they deserve. Yet, the rules here aren’t exactly crystal clear. It’s weird, you know. Some college legends just… slide down the draft ladder. Like, how does that even happen?

Let’s chat about a few, shall we? There’s this list — it’s kinda like the waiting room for potential NFL greatness, minus Shedeur Sanders. Why? Maybe he found another ride. Who knows. Anyway, these guys are anxiously waiting for their names to echo in those big draft halls.

### Quinn Ewers, QB, Texas

So, Quinn. Picture a guy who led Texas to the semifinals—twice! He’s heaving these footballs around like no one’s business: over 9,000 yards and 68 touchdowns. I mean, wow, right? Yeah, but fumblerooski! Ten fumbles last year alone. Maybe those butterfingers are why he’s still in the lineup and not crossing the stage yet.

### Donovan Edwards, RB, Michigan

Edwards! This dude literally ran Michigan to glory—like 200+ yards against big-shot teams. And, oh yeah, he popped up on the cover of a video game. (Remember those days? Blowing on cartridges hoping they’d work?) Anyway, inconsistency’s got him stuck here, but honestly, with a 4.44-second 40-yard dash, this guy’s got jets, if you ask me. He’s bound to zoom into some NFL backfield.

### Tez Johnson, WR, Oregon

Catch this: Tez with his 169 catches and 20 touchdowns—mind-boggling! But here’s the catch (pun intended): he’s tiny, you know? And slower than folks thought. Still, he’s this daredevil in traffic, so maybe he’ll surprise us all.

### CJ Dippre, TE, Alabama

CJ’s like, a solid player with 65 catches. Bench presses like Hercules, but crickets when it comes to touchdowns at Bama. Maybe he’s more wall, less wonder? His blocking, though, screams “team guy.” We love a good team guy, don’t we?

### Cooper Mays, C, Tennessee

Now, Cooper could do a masterclass in stability—never missed a start. He’s like your reliable friend who always picks up the tab. The only hiccup? He doesn’t meet those “big league” physical checkboxes, but come on—experience counts for something, right?

### Willie Lampkin, C, North Carolina

Lampkin’s gotten more high fives as a guard, it seems. His dimensions might make scouts squint, but this guy’s got grit. He’s as tenacious as a bulldog with a bone. Or a wrestler with a heavyweight title. Pick your fighter.

### Antwaun Powell-Ryland, edge, Virginia Tech

Antwaun’s a sack magnet! But he’s kind of caught in that position limbo, like an orange without anyone waiting for juice. The arm length could pose a problem, but fingers crossed someone sees him for the monster he can be.

### Howard Cross III, DT, Notre Dame

Howard’s work ethic is next level. He’s relentless, probably wakes up before his alarm. But, a defensive tackle without the prototype build? Well, there’s a puzzle for the ages. Still, effort—it’s this intangible superpower.

### Jay Higgins, LB, Iowa

Jay plays like there’s nitrous in his veins—250+ tackles in two seasons. Okay, his combine didn’t nail it, but production has to count, right? I mean, the dude’s everywhere on the field like the uncle who sets the dance floor on fire at weddings.

### Jason Marshall Jr., CB, Florida

Then there’s Jason, practically born to play cornerback. The snag? No interceptions and some injuries. But given his potential, teams might just have room for a corner with his kind of heart.

So there you have it—a bunch of great guys caught in draft limbo. Why they’re still floating around, who the heck knows? In any case, someone’s going to look past their hiccups and see what’s itching to shine. Anyway, that’s the draft for you—crazy, chaotic, and full of surprises.

(Oh, and that top photo of Quinn? Total legend move.)
