From this point leading up to the NFL Draft in 2025, we’re diving deep into the analysis of as many draft prospects as we can, focusing on what makes them stand out or what areas they need to work on to shine in the NFL. Whether they’re top picks or undrafted players with potential, we’re covering the full spectrum. Today, let’s talk about Gavin Bartholomew, a tight end from Pitt.

STRENGTHS

Gavin’s got the size and athleticism you look for in a tight end, moving smoothly and with speed. He’s not just a big body; he knows how to position himself well for blocks and doesn’t shy away from contact. With his reliable hands, he catches passes effortlessly and isn’t afraid to fight for a few extra yards. His versatility is a major asset too, lining up in various spots on the field—whether that’s in the traditional tight end position, out wide, or even as an H-Back. He’s particularly dangerous in motion, using his route-running skills to get open and present a big target for his quarterback.

WEAKNESSES

While Gavin’s got a lot going for him, there are areas where he could improve. His arm length isn’t ideal, which can affect blocking and receiving. He could bulk up a bit to handle bigger defensive players and improve his strength to really finish blocks. In terms of route running, he sometimes looks a bit stiff and could do a better job of shaking off defenders. Speed-wise, he’s not exactly blowing past defenders, and this limitation can make it tough to create separation, especially when he’s not in the perfect position.

BIOGRAPHY

A senior from Schuykill Haven, PA, Gavin studied Communication at Pitt. He was a versatile high school athlete, playing multiple positions including tight end and quarterback. His college career at Pitt was solid: 28 catches for 326 yards in 2021, 283 yards in 2022, and a slight dip to 322 yards in 2024 due to missing two games. Recognized for his contributions on and off the field, Gavin was part of the AFCA Allstate Good Works Team and has several All-ACC mentions to his name.

FILM ANALYSIS

A Pennsylvania native, Bartholomew chose to play his college ball at Pitt and made an immediate impact. You can’t miss his presence on the field—over four years, he became a key player for the Panthers. Watching his film, it’s clear he’s more than capable, operating effectively in several roles across the offense. Whether he’s in the slot, lining up traditionally, or moving in motion, Gavin knows how to create advantageous matchups.

One highlight is a touchdown against Clemson, where he deftly maneuvered past a linebacker to score. His ability to come back to the ball and create space, as seen against Louisville, really showcases his football smarts. A reliable option in short-yard situations, Gavin can turn a simple catch into a first down, illustrating his knack for finding the soft spot in a defense.

One of his standout traits is blocking. He’s not afraid to put in the dirty work, positioning himself expertly to clear paths for his running backs, as seen in multiple game clips.

CONCLUSION

Gavin Bartholomew’s experience and leadership qualities bring value to any NFL team looking for a dependable tight end. Though he might initially fit best as a special teams contributor or a backup tight end, he has the potential to evolve. His skill set matches that of Charlie Woerner, a solid sixth-round pick who’s made a name for himself as a backup and blocking specialist in the league. Similarly, expect Gavin to provide depth and utility at the next level.

Projection: Day 3
Draft Grade: 6.7 – Backup/Special Teamer (Estimated 5th Round)
