Next month, Mykal Fox is set to utilize his towering stature against Serhii Bohachuk, a former interim junior middleweight champion, as they face off on May 17th in Los Angeles.
Standing tall at 6’3”, Fox, who boasts a record of 24 wins, 4 losses, and 5 draws, is gearing up for his first challenge in the 154-pound division. He acknowledges that Bohachuk, who has an impressive 25 wins and only 2 losses with 24 knockouts, represents one of his toughest opponents yet.
For the 29-year-old Fox, this matchup is a daunting move up in weight class. His lack of knockout power and a history of challenging bouts make this fight a formidable task.
Bohachuk holds the number one WBC ranking at 154 pounds. His only losses came from a controversial twelve-round majority decision against Vergil Ortiz Jr. last year and a knockout in the eighth round by Brandon Adams back in 2021.
Speaking to MillCity Boxing, Fox shared, “I’m stepping into the ring with a former interim world champion for my debut at 154. My primary focus is beating Serhii Bohachuk. Whether or not I stay in this division, I’ll decide after the fight, depending on how my body handles it.”

Fox believes he can mitigate some of Bohachuk’s strengths. “He’s got long arms and likes to pressure, but he won’t have the edge in height against me. Of course, his skill set is something to reckon with,” Fox explained. Despite both having experienced high-stakes fights, Bohachuk’s striking power poses a real concern for Fox.
When asked about the standing of Bohachuk among his past rivals, Mykal confidently stated, “This is the top. Bohachuk has held titles, making him the most notable name on my record.”
Reflecting on his prior challenges, Fox listed Egidijus Kavaliauskas, Gabriel Maestre, and Luke Santamaria as his fiercest competitors.

During a discussion on Bohachuk’s previous fight against Vergil Ortiz Jr., Fox observed, “Bohachuk showed that everyone up here hits hard. While Vergil is a big guy, at 154, things even out a bit. Heading into LA, I expect Bohachuk to up his pressure game, needing to push closer due to my four-inch height advantage.”
Fox plans to capitalize on strategic counter-punches, aiming to lure Bohachuk into mid-range where he can exploit his reach. If Fox can effectively navigate the fight at this distance, he may indeed gain the upper hand against Bohachuk.
