Super Frank Lampard recently shared his opinions on Chelsea’s way of doing things, focusing particularly on how they managed affairs while he was briefly at the helm. Although he didn’t mention the owners directly, his comments certainly shed light on his troubled period as interim manager.
During Lampard’s stint, Chelsea faced significant challenges. It was undeniably a rough patch, possibly the toughest in recent memory, and Lampard really had his work cut out for him, trying to salvage a situation that was beyond repair. Many players seemed eager to leave, busy arranging their departures. From the top brass to the locker room, everything felt out of order.
Reflecting on that tumultuous time, Lampard didn’t hold back. He remarked, “Returning to Chelsea as an interim was tough. The club was in a challenging phase, and I witnessed a lot of unsettling things. I faced questions about whether it was the right decision at that time. And I saw aspects of the operation that shouldn’t exist at a high level like ours, and that’s just the truth.”
His insights leave us speculating about the specifics, but considering how challenging that era was, it’s fair to think Chelsea has since turned a corner. Time will unveil those changes.
Despite his candid comments, I honestly don’t think Lampard scorched any bridges. That might have been said in jest. His directness should be valued, and personally, I’d be keen to hear more of his experiences and insights. It’s an unfolding story at the club—one we’re all eager to see develop.
