Who Achieved the Greatest Success in Shanghai?

As we gear up for this weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix, let’s dive into the track’s storied past with a spotlight on the drivers and teams who’ve made their mark in Shanghai. Since it first featured on the World Championship calendar in 2004, this race has been a staple, taking place at the same circuit every year, except during the three-year break from 2020 to 2023, when it was paused for various reasons. Back in 2004, Rubens Barrichello clinched victory here with Ferrari, setting the stage for many thrilling contests to come.

Leading the pack in terms of wins is none other than Lewis Hamilton, with an impressive six wins under his belt at this circuit. He’s also been a frequent visitor to the podium, standing on it nine times. Close behind in success are Fernando Alonso and Nico Rosberg, each having conquered the Shanghai track twice.

Speaking of that inaugural race, Barrichello’s win was one for the history books with Ferrari. Other one-time winners who’ve tasted triumph in Shanghai include racing legends like Michael Schumacher, Kimi Räikkönen, Max Verstappen, Jenson Button, Sebastian Vettel, and Daniel Ricciardo. Their victories are testament to the unpredictable and exciting nature of this Grand Prix.

When it comes to teams, Mercedes tops the chart with six total wins, showing their dominance in recent years. They edge out Ferrari, who boast four wins but have a slight edge in podium appearances with 13, just surpassing Mercedes in that regard. Red Bull and McLaren share three victories each, while Renault joins the winners’ circle thanks to Fernando Alonso’s sensational drive to victory.

Looking at engine performance, Mercedes again leads the way with nine wins, showcasing their engineering prowess. They are followed by Ferrari with four wins, and Renault with two, rounding out the top three engine manufacturers that have powered teams to victory in Shanghai.

Stay tuned as we anticipate whether any new stories will be written at this iconic track this weekend!
