Corentin Moutet isn’t one to shy away from a bit of drama during his ATP career, and Friday’s match against Alejandro Tabilo was no exception. Facing off in the second round, tensions ran high as Moutet found himself at odds with a crowd full of enthusiastic Chilean supporters.
Late in the second set, tempers flared. Moutet seemed to hear something offensive from the stands that didn’t sit well with him. He voiced his complaints to the umpire but didn’t get much sympathy. Instead, he found himself penalized and lost a crucial set point, allowing Tabilo, who was ahead 5-3, 40-30, to even the match at one set each.
The unfolding drama might have been captured in Miami, but it was far from cinematic for Moutet. Despite his protests, he suffered an entire game penalty as the new set began. Nevertheless, Moutet fought back, even managing to break back and tie things up at 5-5 in the third set. Yet, it was Tabilo who managed to clinch the victory.
Tabilo emerged victorious with a scoreline of 5-7, 6-3, 7-5. Even now, it’s a mystery exactly what Moutet heard from the audience. Whatever it was, the story isn’t over just yet. Keep your eyes peeled for more developments.
