However, in an unexpected turn of events, he was appointed as the head coach for the University of North Carolina this past offseason, filling the shoes of the previous head coach, Mack Brown. As a result, UNC’s football team has swiftly become the talk of the 2025 college football season, capturing everyone’s attention.
Given the high stakes and buzz surrounding the team, the producers of HBO’s “Hard Knocks” were eager to spotlight UNC as they approached the 2025 season kick-off.
Despite the enticing offer, the Tar Heels decided to decline the opportunity. This decision was elaborated upon by UNC General Manager Michael Lombardi during a segment on “The Pat McAfee Show.”
“It would’ve been fantastic to be part of that,” Lombardi mentioned, as reported by On3. “The challenge was controlling our narrative. The story we aim to tell isn’t confined to just one game against TCU. It’s about our journey of reviving this program, paying homage to our legendary players, and rejuvenating Tar Heel football. We want our stadium to burst with energy on Saturday afternoons, much like other prominent ACC schools. That’s the narrative we are committed to sharing.”
